Most PDF size comes from embedded images (scans, photos, screenshots). The library we use (pdf-lib) rebuilds the document structure and can use compressed object streams—it does not recompress or downsample those images. Files that are already optimized often change by only a few percent. For heavy scans, desktop tools (e.g. Ghostscript, Adobe) or re-exporting images at lower resolution will shrink much more.
